HOW TO BRING THE WHERE PEACE LIVES MURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM TO YOUR SCHOOL OR ORGANIZATION
At
WHERE PEACE LIVES, our goal is to bring conflict-resolution,
mediation, and peace to schools. Our hope is by bringing an attitude
of ease and abundance; Fund raising will become a positive part
of your school's Where Peace Lives experience. Because our success
in schools is due to the participation and leadership of committed
students and teachers, Fund raising gives you and your school the
opportunity to reach out and involve others in your community to
make a difference. Here are a few simple Fund raising ideas to support
a Where Peace Lives Mural Exchange Program at your school:
Make
face-to-face visits with prospective donors.
Make a list of people that have a passion for bringing love and
acceptance to schools and could make a contribution to your Where
Peace Lives program. Have students share why they see the importance
of this cultural exchange program with these prospective donors
and personally ask them for a contribution to your program (face-to-face).
You may also consider sending a packet to them before your visit
that includes information from the web site and the Where
Peace Lives DVD.
Have
a small community gathering for prospective donors.
Invite individuals that are passionate about supporting students
to a small event at a home and have them give a presentation about
Where Peace Lives — including a showing of the 10 minute documentary
on the work of Where Peace Lives. Our organization is happy to provide
you with two copies free of charge — any additional
DVDs will cost $10.00 each. The event can be simple — provide
guests with dessert, coffee and other refreshments and share with
them the end goal you wish to see at your school — love, support
and connection.
Ask
for financial support from local community groups such as Rotary,
Kiwanis, Lions
Club, Junior
League or other civic
groups.
Many community groups support the activities of youth in their communities.
Have students at your school present the Where Peace Lives program
to these various groups and focus on how the program will help all
of you build a loving and peaceful community. You could also invite
these members to participate in the Where Peace Lives Mural Program
as adult mentors. This is a great way to raise funds and introduce
Where Peace Lives to your community.
Ask
a local business to "adopt" your school.
Many local business men and women care very deeply about young people
and their communities. You could ask them to get involved by funding
your Where Peace Lives Mural Program and provide them with a picture
of the class they have adopted as well as an invitation to participate
as an adult mentor. Let them know that they will be included in
press releases and news about the project, theyÕll love the free
advertising.
Seek
funds from police departments, school safety funds, drug use prevention
funds and nonprofits such as the United Way or local community and
family foundations.
Check out the Foundation
Center Web site for information on foundations and corporations
that support youth in your area. Many organizations have set aside
funds specifically to help promote violence-free and substance-free
schools and communities. Contact these organizations and develop
a partnership between your school and the community to support the
Where Peace Lives Mural Exchange Program.
